Press Conference
Shanon Hays - Texas Tech Head Coach
Opening statement
"That was quick and painful. After the first inning, we never really seemed in the game. I'm surprised by the way we played and I thought we'd be more aggressive and make some plays in the field that we normally make."
"I told the girls earlier in the week that this would be a game that they might have to win 7-6, 8-7 or 9-8. Unfortunately, (New Mexico State) did their part of that scoring and we didn't."
"We were thoroughly whipped. I just hope our girls take this and remember it for a long time. I believe every day is a new day. But sometimes you need to take this personally and figure out a way to never let that happen again."
On moving forward Saturday
"I think anything can happen on any given day. This is one of those games where if you do good things earlier, you'll give yourself a chance to win. (Coming back) is doable but it's a lot harder and we're just going to have to go out and do it again tomorrow, just not like today."
Junior Raven Richardson - Shortstop
On the game
"In the beginning, everyone (on our team) was up and screaming and yelling. But as the game went on and they started scoring, we started to calm down and I don't think that that can happen moving forward."
Kathy Rodolph - New Mexico State Head Coach
Opening statement
"I'm proud of the kids and how hard they played. I told them to focus on just us, and they did just that. Alex Newman pitched a fantastic game. She put the ball in good spots, and it was just huge for her first regional. Ashley Maroda can hurt, and she did. She owned the five-six hole for us."
"We were agressive in the first inning, and I think it caught Texas Tech off guard. We wanted to establish ourselves and we did that."
Sophomore Alex Newman - Pitcher
"I just take each game pitch by pitch, inning by inning. I didn't know I had a no-hitter until the end of the game."
