
Adams Wins US Open Texas Sectional in Mixed Doubles

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's sophomore Samantha Adams teamed up with her brother Harrison and moved on in the US Open National Playoffs by winning the 2011 US Open Texas Sectional Qualifying Tournament Mixed Double Championship in Arlington, Texas, this past weekend.
"I am very proud of Sam's (Adams) accomplishment," head coach Todd Petty said. "She had a strong freshman year and has continued to work hard this summer. We are excited about the way she is playing and the way she is representing Texas Tech."
The Adams' duo had to fight back after losing the first set in the match and was forced to win a tie-break to win the match. The Adams beat the team of Lenka Broosova and Jordan Rux, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (7) to win the mixed double title.
Adams had a singles record of 25-12 on the season and 17-7 in the spring. She was named All-Big 12 doubles with teammate Kelsy Garland. Adams and Garland finished the season with a 21-12 record and a 7-4 record in Big 12 play.
The sophomore and her brother now will advance in the US Open National Playoffs in mixed double to be played at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. The 15 sectional winners will face off against each other with the winner receiving a wild card spot into the 2011 US Open.
