LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Amanda Dowdy will travel overseas Sunday to join the USA Volleyball contingent participating in the 2011 European Global Challenge that will be held July 18-21 in Pula, Croatia.
Dowdy will initially travel to London where the Team USA squad will train with the Great Britain National Team that will take part in the 2012 London Olympics. The team will arrive in Croatia on July 17 for the opening ceremonies.
The European Global Challenge will match 12 teams from the U.S. and Europe against each other in a pool play format over the first two days before the top eight teams advance to a double-elimination format to crown the tournament champion.
The trip marks the second time Dowdy will compete internationally as she was also selected to the U.S. Women's Junior National Team in 2009. That squad finished 12th at the World Championships held in Tijuana, Mexico.
As part of her trip, Dowdy will regularly update Texas Tech fans on the team's progress on the school's official website, www.texastech.com.
