Tech Track Puts 10 on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track & field team put a total of 10 student athletes on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association scholar athlete team.
The Lady Raider had nine be named All-Academic. The women honored were Erica Alexander (general studies), Devin Bailey (nutrition), Purity Biwott (nursing), Terra Evans (exercise and sports science), Caroline Karunde (nursing), Winrose Karunde (nursing), Ifeatu Okafor (exercise and sports science), Jamie Simanek (exercise and sports science) and Shade Weygandt (psychology).
Kyal Meyers (management) earned the distinction on the men's side with a 3.38 grade-point average.
To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event.
For the second-straight year the Lady Raiders have been named an All-Academic Team. Tech was one of 11 schools to earn the distinction. To be named an All-Academic team the squad must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better.
