LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Amanda Dowdy was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team Tuesday in a unanimous vote of the conference coaches.
Dowdy, who was also named to the conference preseason team a year ago, was one of five players selected unanimously on the 14 player team.
An All-Big 12 first team selection last season, Dowdy enters her final season in a Tech uniform as one of the most successful players in school history. She finished the 2010 campaign with a team-high 424 kills to go along with 243 digs and 55 blocks.
The Lexington, Texas native is currently fifth on the school's career kills list (1,041) and sixth in career attacks (2,892) as she is only the eighth player in school history to reach 1,000 kills in a career.
Rachael Adams and Khat Bell of Texas earned Player and Freshman of the Year honors, while Iowa State's Hannah Willms was named the conference Newcomer of the Year.
League coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. The conference office will release the Big 12 preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon.
