The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season is underway and throughout the remainder of the semester, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Nick Hanslik (OF - 6-2, 225 - R/R - RS Jr./2L - Wolfforth, Texas/Frenship)
Nick Hanslik is entering his fourth season with the Red Raiders in 2012. Two of those seasons he has been a valuable asset coming off the bench and also spot starting in the outfield and as designated hitter. Hanslik spent his second year in the program rehabbing his elbow that required Tommy John surgery.
One of the leaders of the program, Hanslik played in 38 games (12 starts) during the 2011 season, mostly in the outfield and also as a designated hitter. He was a valuable defensive replacement late in games and several times was called on to pinch run during a crucial point in the game.
In fact, his career defensive numbers speak for themselves. In 56 career games, Hanslik has not made a defensive error with 23 putouts and one assist.
Hanslik also provided some key moments for Tech in 2011. He drove a run which gave the Red Raiders the lead in game three of their series at No. 4 Texas, he tripled and drove in a pair of runs against UTSA in San Angelo to help Tech to a doubleheader sweep and he made numerous game-changing plays in the outfield throughout the season.
"Nick played in a lot of games for us last year and played very good defense," four-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He is a great teammate. The amount of time he gets to play depends on how he swings the bat in the fall. Nobody puts in more work or more time (than Nick). We are rooting for him to become that offensive player to go with that ability to play defense and run."
In addition, Hanslik is one of just five remaining players from the Red Raiders 2009 squad, Spencer's first as head coach at Texas Tech.
