
Strong Start for Women's Tennis in Austin

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team had a strong start to the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, as Caroline Starck and Sandra Dynka both advanced to the quarterfinal in singles play.
"It was a very good day," head coach Todd Petty said. "We learned a lot of lessons today and I am very proud of the way Sandra played today. The field is small but very deep with talent. Overall it was a very good day and hoping to see some mental changes because we need to finish matches better."
Sandra Dynka won her first round match of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Annat Rabinovich of Texas. She followed it up with another victory over Noel Scott of Texas in two sets (6-3, 6-2).
"I can't say enough about Sandra's play today," Petty said. "She won a very tight first round match and beat a very talented girl in the second round. She played extremely well."
Caroline Starck beat Juliana Gajic of Texas by a 6-0, 6-4, decision and will face teammate Dynka tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
Haley Fournier beat Carlene Leyden of Texas with a score of 6-0, 6-3 but fell in her second round match 6-4, 6-4 to Krista Damico of Texas.
Kenna Kilgo took on Leah Fried of Rice in her first round match and won 6-1, 6-4 before falling to Juliette Coupez of USD 6-3, 6-4.
Elizabeth Ullathorne fell in her first match of singles to Texas' Cierra Gayton-Leach by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action the duo of Strack and Fournier advanced to the semifinals and will face Cierra Gayton-Leach and Noel Scott of Texas tomorrow. The duo first took down Giada D'Ortona and Natalia Mayuk 8-6 in their first match.
Kilgo and Ullathorne faced Krista Damico and Alex Martin of Texas in the quarterfinal round and lost in a tight match 9-8.
