No. 20 Arizona State Gets Past No. 45 Texas Tech

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 20 Arizona State (3-0) took the doubles point and added three singles victories to cruise to a 4-1 win over No. 45 Texas Tech (1-1) at the ITA Kickoff Weekend event held on the campus of Arizona State University at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
"We lost a tight one today," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "The score really does not tell the story. I felt like we battled today against a really good Arizona State squad."
The Sun Devils were one of 15 schools in the country to host an ITA Kickoff Weekend, which featured the nation's top 60 schools. The winner of each bracketed tournament will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Virginia.
Elizabeth Ullathorne and Rashmi Teltumbde teamed for the Lady Raiders sole doubles win on Saturday, as the duo topped Hannah James and Sianna Simmons of ASU, 8-3 at No. 3.
After ASU took the 1-0 lead on the doubles point, Texas Tech answered with a quick 6-3, 6-1 victory by Nikki Sanders at No. 6, who cruised by Joanna Smith. But then Arizona State secured three straight singles wins to earn the victory, 4-1, despite Texas Tech's Caroline Starck and Kenna Kilgo both leading their respective matches on the court when the match was called.
Texas Tech will now face No. 48 Sacramento State at 10:30 a.m. CT at the Whiteman Tennis Center on Sunday in the consolation finals.
