NCAA: Kithuka Wins 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championship
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior and 2012 NCAA Cross Country Champion Kennedy Kithuka was officially tabbed to the All-American team Monday as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Kithuka finished first overall at the 2012 NCAA Championships on Saturday to become Texas Tech's first male cross country national champion in school history. The Thika, Kenya native crossed the line with a time of 28:31.3 in the 10,000-meter race held in Louisville, Ky.
Kithuka finished the 2012 cross country season undefeated in seven meets and became the first Red Raider to capture the Big 12 Cross Country Championship in school history in October.
He becomes the second Red Raider in school history to be named All-America following Kevin Chelimo who earned the recognition in 2006.
Eighty student-athletes who competed at the NCAA Championships comprised the 2012 All-American Cross Country team as the top-40 men's and women's finishers earned the recognition by the USTFCCCA.
