The win was the first for Tech ever against Long Beach State as the Red Raiders entered this weekend 0-2 all-time against the 49ers.
The win capped a solid day for the Red Raiders as they topped a team receiving votes in this week's ESPN/USA Softball top 25 poll (Ohio State) along with a NCAA Regional squad from last year in Long Beach State.
The win marked Tech's first this season when scoring two runs or less. The Red Raiders were previously 0-3 on the year in such situations.
The win improved Tech to 2-2 this year against teams that advanced to the postseason last year. Tech's other victory came in the season opener against San Diego State.
Tech had seven hits for the third-straight game. The Red Raiders' nine runs on the day are also two shy of its total from its opening weekend at the Kajikawa Classic.
Long Beach State committed two errors in the day, giving Tech opponents a total of six on the day. Tech opponents had not committed an error against the Red Raiders prior to this weekend.
The shutout was Tech's first since defeating Harvard, 7-0, in the second day of last year's NCAA Tucson Regional. Kelsey Dennis and Brittany Talley combined for that shutout.
Cara Custer's shutout was the first by a Tech pitcher since Talley did so against Nebraska in the series finale on May 1 last year.
The shutout was also the first for Custer in her Tech career and the first for the Red Raiders this season.
Emily Bledsoe's fifth-inning double was the 39th of her career and first of the season. Bledsoe already holds the Tech school record and is nine shy from entering the Big 12 record book as well.
