LAS VEGAS, Nev. - No. 32 Texas Tech cruised to a 5-2 win over No. 45 Long Beach State on Friday in the first of three straight matches against ranked teams.
"This was a great duel," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "We played good doubles and started the singles very strong, but you have to give Long Beach Sate a lot of credit, they fought back to make this a very tight match."
The nationally-ranked duo of Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo won at No. 1 doubles, while Caroline Starck and Nikki Sanders secured the point with their win at No. 2.
Elizabeth Ullathorne, Stark, Kilgo and Sanders each added singles wins to secure the victory for Texas Tech.
"Elizabeth really swung the momentum back to our side with the won at No. 1 singles," said Petty. "Nikki (Sanders) helped put the pressure back on Long Beach State with her win."
Texas Tech will face No. 36 Utah on Saturday at 10 a.m.
