Six Tech Athletes Honored With Dr. Gerald Lage Award

Six Texas Tech student-athletes were honored by the Big 12 with the prestigious Dr. Gerald Lage Award Thursday.
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech had six athletes named recipients of the prestigious Dr. Gerald Lage Award. The award is the highest academic honor presented by the Big 12 Conference.
Devin Bailey (Track and Field), Gabby Dominguez (Women's Golf), Maggie Fete (Soccer), Holley Gentsch (Softball), Ashley Hamada (Softball) and Ifeatu Okafor (Track and Field) were each named recipients of the award Thursday by the Big 12 Conference.
A total of 60 athletes throughout the Conference were honored with the award and will be publicly recognized at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships next week.
Tech ranked fourth in the Conference in total number of recipients.
To be eligible to receive the Dr. Gerald Lage Award, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while also maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. Honorees for the award can only be recognized once, and should have 100 hours or eared credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.
The Dr. Gerald Lage award is presented in memory of Lage, who served as the Oklahoma State University faculty athletics representative with the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference from 1983 until his death in 2007. Lage was the chairman on three occasions.
