THE TEXAS SERIES The win helped Texas Tech snap a nine-game losing streak to the Longhorns, who still control the overall series with a 27-6 all-time advantage.
Tech's last victory over Texas came in a 5-4 victory on March 27, 2008 in Lubbock. Texas was unranked in that contest.
The Red Raiders improved to just 2-12 all-time when facing the Longhorns in Lubbock.
The win also the first for Shanon Hays against Texas as the third-year head coach is now 1-6 against the Longhorns.
The three-run margin of victory marked the largest for Tech against Texas since taking an 8-3 victory in Austin on May 2, 2001.
TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES
Texas Tech extended its season-long home winning streak to 13-straight, matching Western Michigan for the fourth-longest active streak in the country.
The Red Raiders travel this weekend to face a Missouri club that has won 22-straight at home, the third-longest active streak.
Tech picked up its second victory over a top-five ranked team in the past week dating back to last Friday night's win at then-No. 5 Oklahoma.
The win improves Tech to 4-6 against ranked opponents this season and 2-2 against those in the top five in the polls.
Texas was the highest-ranked team to lose to the Red Raiders during the Shanon Hays era. Tech's previously picked up four wins against top-10 teams against Hays, a doubleheader sweep of No. 7 Oklahoma State on April 22, 2010 and then last weekend's 5-4 victory over then-No. 5 Oklahoma.
The Red Raiders came into the game 3-6 on the year when trailing after three innings and 4-6 when their opponent scored first.
Tech is 23-0 now on the year when leading after five innings. That same record also applies to when the Red Raiders have led after six innings.
The Red Raiders are now 5-4 in Big 12 play, matching their conference win total from a year ago when Tech advanced to the NCAA Tucson Regional.
Raven Richardson
Richardson went 1-for-2 at the plate with four crucial RBI. In addition to her fourth-inning home run, she also drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
The four RBI match her career high that has been accomplished three times previously, most recently against Alcorn State on March 12 last year.
The performance marked her fourth multiple-RBI game of the year. It was also only the sixth time this year a Tech player had recorded four or more RBI in a game.
Richardson's home run was her sixth on the year and the 53rd for Tech this season, leaving the Red Raiders five shy of last year's school record.
Cara Custer
After giving up two early runs, Custer shut the door on the Longhorns en route to picking up her Big 12-leading 19th victory of the year.
Custer tossed her 13th complete game of the year and her third so far in Big 12 play.
She is now one win shy of reaching the 20 on the year, a feat accomplished previously by only one player in school history, Renfro.
Renfro owns the school's career wins record and has the top-three spots on the single-season chart as well. Her 23 wins in 1998 are still the most by a Tech freshman in school history.
