LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Meredith Heath was recognized this week for her work in the classroom and community as she was named to the Big 12 Chick-fil-A Community of Champions.
Heath, a university studies major from Fort Worth, Texas, has been a regular in the Lubbock community during her three years with visits to local hospitals and elementary schools, including weekly visits to Willow Bend Elementary for the school's lunch buddy program.
"This is a great award for Meredith and we're proud of what she does for us both on the field and then also how she represents our program in the community," Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "Meredith takes great pride in helping others and we couldn't be prouder for her."
To qualify for the award, each honoree must have maintained a 3.00 grade point average or higher while also participating in at least one community service program. The recipients must have also demonstrated strong leadership and sportsmanship on and off the field as well.
Each institution that has a student-athlete represented will be awarded $4,500 from Chick-fil-A as a result of their activities in the community.
