LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field program is primed to compete at one of the most iconic meets in the country this weekend as the No. 9 Red Raiders and No. 11 Lady Raiders head to Philadelphia to compete at the historic Penn Relays. The meet, which is the longest uninterrupted of its kind in the country, will host a plethora of top programs from across the country at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The meet will begin Thursday morning and is scheduled to run through Saturday.
"It's just a tremendous meet," head coach Wes Kittley said. "It's a fantastic opportunity to compete here."
Texas Tech will also send a group of throwers and distance runners to compete at the West Texas A&M Open on April 28 in Canyon, Texas. Tech will send a group of 11 athletes to Canyon, while 23 athletes will compete at the Penn Relays.
Kittley's program has found success at the Penn Relays as recently as last season when the men's shuttle hurdle relay team captured a title with a school-record time of 54.67. Tech also boasted the men's athlete of the meet in former senior Omo Osaghae.
Tech has won a total of four relay championships at the Penn Relays, all under the guidance of Kittley.
