Felipe Soares is faring well five months after signing on the dotted line to play tennis at Texas Tech.
The signing has seemingly acted as a catalyst for Soares's drive, as he has climbed the worldwide Association of Tennis Professionals rankings.
Since signing in November, Soares has improved 206 spots in the ATF rankings in singles, moving from being tied for 1000th to 794th in the world.
Many victories in singles for the native Brazilian helped boost him, including the defeat of 404th-ranked Thiago Fernandes in February 2012, 532nd-ranked Thales Turini in March 2012, and 580th-ranked Diego Matos in October 2011.
Soares has additionally taken down 550th-ranked Danilo Ferraz in November 2011, 635th-ranked Juan Ignacio Londero in November 2011, and 746th-ranked Gustavo Sterin in November 2011.
The 19-year-old has also improved from 841st to 789th in doubles within the same timeframe.
Soares reached and achieved championship status of the Brazil F36 Tournament in Porto Alegre, Brazil in October 2011. With his partner Thales Turini, Soares defeated 635th-ranked Gabriel Vicentini Pereira and 719th-ranked Pedro Sakamoto, both of Brazil.
Soares will arrive on campus this fall.
