THE IOWA STATE SERIES• With the win, Texas Tech improved to 23-14 all-time against Iowa State. The Red Raiders also retook the overall lead in games played in Ames as Tech now leads 10-9 all-time.
• The Red Raiders have now won six of the last seven games against Iowa State.
• The win improved Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays to 7-2 all-time against Iowa State.
TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES
• The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Red Raiders, which was the longest such run for Texas Tech since dropping the first 12 games of the 2008 season.
• The win guarantees Texas Tech can finish no worse than .500 on the season. A victory in Sunday's rubber match would mark the Red Raiders' fourth-straight winning season under Shanon Hays.
• The victory marked the first time Texas Tech had won a game decided by two or less runs since topping Boise State in the first game of a March 23 doubleheader.
• The Red Raiders improved to 4-5 this season in two-run games and 18-16 all-time under Shanon Hays.
• Texas Tech improved to 23-2 this season when scoring at least six runs. The Red Raiders are an impressive 109-7 when doing so under Shanon Hays as well.
• Texas Tech's two triples in a game marked its most since also connecting on two against Bryant on Feb. 19, 2011.
• The Red Raiders held on for the win in the seventh, improving to 13-1 when leading after this sixth inning this season.
• Texas Tech's three runs in the first inning marked the 21st game where the Red Raiders have scored in the opening frame. Tech is 16-5 now in those games.
Shanon Hays
• The victory pushes Hays to just one win shy of reaching 150 while at Texas Tech. Hays is now 263-88 for his career and 149-72 while at Texas Tech.
Katelyn Williams
• Williams, who was playing on her 20th birthday, finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. It was her team-leading 16th multiple-hit game this year and her ninth multiple-RBI performance.
• Williams' four RBI matched her career high set on March 13 earlier this year a gainst Bryant.
• Her first-inning home run was her ninth of the season while her triple was the second on the year for the sophomore.
• Williams was playing on her birthday for the first time in her Texas Tech career.
Mikey Kenney
• Despite finishing 0-for-3 at the plate, Kenney was able to score two runs and drive in a RBI as well. She opened the game with a walk, her 41st of the season which snaps the Texas Tech single-season record of 40 that was previously set by Erica Sigala in 2004.
Samantha Camello
• Camello connected on her first career triple in the sixth inning en route to finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. It was Camello's eighth multiple-hit game this year. She has hit safely in each of Tech's last three games.
Shelby Johnson
• Johnson went 2-for-3 with a walk, marking her 15th multiple-hit game this season. It was her second multiple-hit performance so far during Big 12 play.
