        FIREWORKS IN THE FIRST QUARTER
Texas Tech may have had problems starting games here at Jones AT&T Stadium in the last three years, but those problems didn't exist tonight against Stephen F. Austin. Texas Tech tied a school record with 28 points in the first quarter and built a 28-7 lead over the Lumberjacks. Tech previously put up 28 points in the first quarter of the Sam Houston State game in 2005. The last time Texas Tech scored 28 points in a single quarter (any quarter) was against New Mexico (also 28 points) in the second quarter.
        • Freshman quarterback Baker Mayfield was 13-for-15 in the quarter with 191 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the first half 21-of-30 for 367 yards with three touchdowns.

        DEFENSE GETS ITS FIRST TURNOVER
The Texas Tech defense came up with its first turnover of the season when Jackson Richards recovered a fumble caused by teammate Dartwan Bush. The last time the Tech defense came up with a fumble recovery was at Iowa State in 2012. The last time Tech forced and recovered a fumble on the same play was in the season finale at Baylor in 2011.

        STUDENT ATTENDANCE RECORD SET
Texas Tech students set a new school record tonight as 14,915 showed up to watch the Red Raiders defeat Stephen F. Austin. The previous record was 12,910 against SMU in the 2010 opener.

        NOTING THE RED RAIDERS

        • Kenny Williams gave Texas Tech a 14-0 lead on a one yard touchdown run with 9:08 remaining in the first quarter. That marked his first rushing touchdown of the season. Williams added a another TD run in the first quarter to give him his second career multiple rushing TD game. His only other multiple rushing TD game came against Baylor in 2011. The 60-yard reception is the longest of his career and the longest pass thrown by Mayfield in his brief career. The 60-yard reception gave Marquez a new career high in receiving yards and he finished the night with 94.
        • Sophomore DeAndre Washington gave Texas Tech a 45-7 lead with 47 seconds remaining in the first half. His two-yard TD run was his first touchdown run since the Kansas State game in 2011.
