LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Red Raider Tennis opens the 2014 spring season ranked No. 51, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released this week.
The Red Raiders finished last season at No. 50 and just missed a berth in the NCAA Championships. It marked the first time in seven years that the Red Raiders did not advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Individually, two Red Raiders earned recognition in singles, while one doubles team was honored.
Hugo Dojas, who went 6-4 in the fall with a huge win over No. 19 Harrison Adams from Texas A&M, enters the poll at No. 65. It is Dojas' first career singles ranking.
Red Raider team Felipe Soares reentered the poll at No. 101 after being ranked as high as No. 122 last season. Soares went 8-2 in the fall.
In doubles, Dojas and Maxime Hinnisdaels earned their first career ranking at No. 33. The duo went 9-2, including winning the Longhorn Invitational doubles title.
Texas Tech opens the season on Jan. 18 with a doubleheader against UTSA and Prairie View A&M.
