Gregory, who was hired as Tech's seventh head coach in program history this past June, has spent the first two months of the semester working with the Red Raiders in individuals groups.
Tech will now spend the month of October and the start of November in its fall team period, practicing throughout the week while also taking part in five dates of exhibition games.
"It's so exciting. I think the kids have been dying to get on the field as a group," Gregory said. "We choice to stay in small groups early on so we could get to know each other a little bit better. This is the first time we're really getting together, so I think everyone is excited to explode out and hit the ground running."
Gregory inherits a team that returns 17 letterwinners, including six starters, from the 2014 season where the Red Raiders recorded their fifth straight 30-win season. Tech also returns several pitchers from its rotation a year ago, namely Cara Custer, Chandler Moore, Cassie McClure and Mattison Maisel.
The Red Raiders welcomed four newcomers to their roster for the first practice in transfers Jordan Bettiol and Devon Thomey as well as freshmen Kaylee Strickland and Karina Vargas.
Fans can see the Red Raiders in action on Oct. 14 when Tech hosts its first exhibition game of the fall against West Texas A&M. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
