CANYON, Texas --The Texas Tech Red Raider and Lady Raider cross country teams wrapped up regular season competition at the Buffalo Stampede, in Canyon, Texas, on Saturday.
Tech, giving many of its top runners the week off before the postseason begins next week, did not field enough runners on either side to post a team score.
On the men's side, James McIlwain led the way for the Red Raiders, finishing 13th, with a time of 27:59.00. Wyatt Kieler (28:03.00) and Todd Mickey (28:04.00) were on his heels, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 16th and 17th, respectively.
Leading the way for the women's team was Maggy Mulholland, who finished the 6,000-meter race in 24:28.00, which was good enough for 20th. Katy Allen was the second Red Raider to cross the finish line, taking 22nd, with a time of 24:41.00. Sarah Bailey (24:53.00) finished in 26th place, and Sophia Jimenez took 49th, finishing in 26:22.00.
"This was a fine tune-up meet in preparation for the Big 12 meet, next weekend," Texas Tech head coach Jon Murray said. "We were able to clarify our top 10 runners from this race. We're ready for the postseason to start."
Texas Tech cross country returns to action next weekend, as the postseason begins with the Big 12 Cross Country Championships, Nov. 1, in Lawrence, Kan.
