? Sophomore Justis Nelson picked up his second fumble recovery of the season midway through the third quarter. J.J. Gaines picked up his first career forced fumble on the play.
? Junior linebacker Micah Awe recorded a career-high 12 tackles.
? Junior safety J.J. Gaines posted a career-high 12 tackles... he also matched a career-high two pass breakups.
TEAM NOTES
? Texas Tech extended its consecutive game-scoring streak to 216 games with the defensive touchdown late in the first quarter. Tech's scoring streak dates back to the 1997 season.
? Texas Tech tallied 381 total yards, which extended its streak with at least 325 total yards to 37 consecutive games (longest active streak in the FBS).
? The fumble recovery in the end zone by Branden Jackson marked the first defensive score of the season for Texas Tech. Tech's last defensive touchdown came in last year's home game against Oklahoma State.
? Texas Tech has now played two true freshman walk-ons at quarterback in the last two years. Vincent Testaverde took over the game in the second quarter following an injury to Patrick Mahomes. Testaverde is the ninth true freshman to play for Texas Tech this season.
