Big 12 Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll History ![]()
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech was picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Coaches' poll, the league office announced Tuesday. Defending league champion Kansas State is the favorite to win the league receiving five of the nine first-place votes along with 56 overall points.
Head coaches were not allowed to vote on their respective teams.
The Red Raiders' eighth-place preseason ranking marks its lowest in the poll since being picked 10th out of 10 teams in 2010. Tech went on to finish fifth in league standings in 2010.
K-State received its highest preseason ranking in the coaches' poll while having never been picked higher than seventh in Big 12 history. The Wildcats won the Big 12 regular season in 2013 with a 16-8 league record and a 45-19 record overall.
Oklahoma State received two first-place votes and 51 points overall while being picked second in the league alongside TCU who also received a first-place vote and received 51 points. Texas was the only other program to receive a first-place vote with 50 points in the poll to be picked fourth.
Defending Big 12 Tournament champion Oklahoma was tabbed fifth with 37 points while Baylor (26 points) and West Virginia (23 points) were picked sixth and seventh, respectively.
Tech received 18 points in the poll for eighth place while the Kansas Jayhawks rounded out the poll in ninth place with 12 points in the preseason poll.
