LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior shortstop Tim Proudfoot (North Bend, Wash.) was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 21st round (642nd overall) of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Saturday afternoon.

Proudfoot is the first Red Raider to be drafted by the Athletics since 2007 when catcher Matt Smith was selected in the 14th round. Proudfoot was the third shortstop taken by the A's and overall their fifth middle infielder selected in this year's draft.
Proudfoot became the first Red Raider shortstop to earn All-Big 12 first team since 2005 (Cameron Blair) while batting .317 (44-for-139) this season with 26 runs, five doubles and 19 RBI in 41 games (39 starts).

Texas Tech had two signees selected through 21 rounds of the draft with left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott (Howard College) taken in the sixth round (181st overall) by the Baltimore Orioles and right-handed junior-college pitcher Quinn Carpenter (Iowa Western CC) drafted in the 17th round by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 504th overall pick.
