CAREER NIGHT FOR WASHINGTON
Junior running back DeAndre Washington enjoyed a career night as he logged 104 rushing yards on 20 attempts. His previous career best was 88 rushing yards in an upset of top-ranked Oklahoma in 2011. He scored the first touchdown of the season for the Red Raiders on their second offensive possession in the first quarter. He is the first 100-yard rusher for Texas Tech since Eric Stephens carried for 118 yards (12 carries) against New Mexico on Sept. 15, 2012.
MARQUEZ CRUCIAL DOWN THE STRETCH
Texas Tech senior wide receiver Bradley Marquez was crucial down the stretch for the Red Raiders, hauling in a 70-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter and then a 27-yard touchdown catch with 5:38 remaining in the game. Marquez ended the night with 10 receptions for 184 yards, the most by a Red Raider receiver in a season opener since Darrin Moore collected 221 yards in 2011 against Texas State. His 184 yards are also the most for a Red Raider in any game since Moore recorded 186 yards in 2012 against Baylor. Marquez' big night was boosted by his 70-yard touchdown catch, the longest reception for a Red Raider since Jacoby Franks pulled in a 72-yarder in 2009 against Kansas State. His two touchdown receptions marked a career high.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
? Junior defensive lineman Branden Jackson registered the first sack of the season for the Texas Tech defense that forced a Central Arkansas field goal on its second possession of the game.
? Junior running back DeAndre Washington scored the first touchdown of the season for the Red Raiders on a 1-yard run with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter.
? Senior wide receiver Jordan Davis caught his second career touchdown pass to pull Tech to within two points (16-14) at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter.
? True freshman Justin Stockton recorded his first career touchdown with a six-yard TD run that gave Tech a 21-16 lead with 3:35 to go in the first half. He is the first true freshman running back to score a TD in the season opener since DeAndre Washington did so in 2011 against Texas State.
? Sophomore Reginald Davis hauled in his fourth career touchdown reception with 11:05 to go in the third quarter to give the Red Raiders a 28-16 lead.
? Texas Tech sophomore quarterback Davis Webb finished 39-for-52 overall for 452 yards, the most for a Red Raider quarterback in a season opener since Graham Harrell went 43-for-58 for 536 yards in 2008 against Eastern Washington.
TEAM NOTES
? Texas Tech scored its first points of the season on the second drive of the game when DeAndre Washington scored on a 1-yard touchdown with 5:13 to go in the first quarter. The drive required a conversion on fourth down early on (Jakeem Grant 11-yard catch on 4th and 7) and covered 43 yards on 10 plays.
? Texas Tech took a 21-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. It marked Tech's first halftime lead at home since leading Texas State 13-0 on Sept. 21, 2013.
? Texas Tech committed 15 penalties tonight, it's most since committing 16 in 2010 at New Mexico.
? Texas Tech totaled 636 yards of total offense tonight, its most in a season opener since recording 639 in 2008 against Eastern Washington.
