Soares, Dojas, Curry Earn ITA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - Juniors Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas and freshman Connor Curry made their first appearance of the spring season in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released this week.
As a team, the Red Raiders being the spring ranked No. 41 nationally. Soares is the lone Red Raider ranked in the ITA Top 125 singles rankings, as the Brazilian begins the season ranked No. 28. It is the highest ranking for a Red Raider since Gonzalo Escobar began the spring ranked No. 23 in 2012. Soares went 7-3 in the fall and is 44-23 in three seasons at Texas Tech.
In doubles, Soares entered the rankings twice, as he is ranked No. 30 with Curry and No. 35 when teamed with Dojas. Soares and Curry went 2-0 in the fall, including knocking off No. 25 Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M. Soares and Dojas went 6-2 as a tandem, including a straight-set win over USF's No. 44 Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts.
In the ITA Texas Regional rankings, Texas Tech is one of five schools to have three players ranked in the Top 20 in singles. Soares leads the way at No. 5, while Dojas is ranked No. 18 and sophomore Jolan Cailleau is No. 19.
In doubles, Soares and Curry and ranked No. 6, while Soares and Dojas are No. 7 in the ITA Texas Region.
Texas Tech will open the spring season on Friday, as the Red Raiders compete in the Texas Invitational. Texas Tech opens the dual match season on Jan. 16 in Tucson, Ariz., as the Red Raiders will play six matches over four days against Arizona, New Mexico and UC-Irvine.
