LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Texas Tech cross country teams travel to Sunnyvale, California, for the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Baylands Park, for their final tune up before the Big 12 Championships.
The men's 8K is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT, with the women's 6K following at 11:45 a.m. CT.
Over 800 runners and 40 universities will take part in the competition, which is hosted by Santa Clara University.
Junior Jocelyn Caro led the way for Tech in the women's 5K two weeks ago at the Chile Pepper Festival. The El Paso native paced to a time of 16:48.41 en route to a 10th-place finish. It was the ninth time in her collegiate career that she's placed inside the top-10 of an event.
Her time smashed her previous PR of 16:54.8 at last year's Chile Pepper Festival. The women's team earned a fifth-place finish at both the 2014 and 2015 meets.
It'll be the second 8K for the men's squad this season. Two weeks ago, the men's team also posted a fifth-place finish at the Chile Pepper Festival. Sophomore Miguel Bautista led the Red Raiders for the first time in his young career, grabbing a near top-25 finish behind a time of 24:29.53. His mark was also a personal-best.
The duo of Caro and Bautista were two of 12 Red Raiders to tally seasonal or personal-bests two weeks ago, which is a strong building block coming into Saturday, with the conference meet two weeks away.
This year's Big 12 Championships will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday, Oct. 31, and will also be 8K (men's) and 6K events.
