MAHOMES RUSHES FOR SEVENTH TOUCHDOWN OF THE SEASON, PASSES FOR 233 YARDS
• Patrick Mahomes II rushed for a career-high-matching 58 yards on 15 attempts. The sophomore also completed 26-of-40 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown.
• Mahomes rushed for his seventh touchdown of the season with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter. His seven rushing touchdowns this season are the most for a Texas Tech quarterback since Zebbie Lethridge also had seven in 1997.
WASHINGTON NEARLY RECORDS ANOTHER 100-YARD PERFORMANCE ON THE GROUND
• DeAndre Washington nearly reached the 100-yard rushing mark for the second-straight game and fourth time this season after totaling 94 yards on the ground off 19 carries.
• Washington's performance on the ground gives the senior 837 rushing yards this season (came in with 743). He now needs 163 yards over Texas Tech's final four games to become the first Red Raider to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons since Byron Hanspard (1995-96).
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
• Ian Sadler caught three passes for 40 yards in his first action since facing TCU on Sept. 26.
• Pete Robertson recorded his team-leading third sack of the season early in the first quarter. It was the 19th sack of his career, moving past Calvin Riggs (1983-96; 18.5 sacks) for sixth place all-time in Texas Tech history.
• Clayton Hatfield's 34-yard field goal with 1:42 remaining in the opening quarter marked the second-longest successful attempt of his career. He finished the game 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, moving the redshirt freshman to 8-for-9 on the season.
• Jah'Shawn Johnson recovered his third fumble of the season early in the second quarter and returned it 50 yards to set up Texas Tech's first touchdown of the game. His three fumble recoveries this season are the most for a Red Raider since Franklin Mitchem also had three in 2009.
• Justis Nelson recorded the second interception of his career with 8:21 remaining in the second quarter. His other interception came in the 2013 Holiday Bowl.
• J.J. Gaines snapped his career high for tackles as he totaled 14 from the secondary. His previous high was 12 tackles against Texas in 2014.
• Dakota Allen also notched a career high in tackles as he finished with 15, two more than his previous high of 13 set earlier this year against Baylor.
TEAM NOTES
• This is the first game this season where the Red Raiders have not scored at least 30 points. Texas Tech had previously scored 30 or more points in the first seven games of the season for the first time since 2011.
• Texas Tech finished with 436 yards of total offense in the loss, snapping a four game streak where the Red Raiders have recorded at least 500 yards of offense.
• Texas Tech was previously a perfect 5-0 this season when forcing at least two turnovers in a game.
• Texas Tech's 17 points in the opening half marked its fewest before the break this season.
• The Texas Tech defense forced two turnovers in the loss, giving the Red Raiders 17 now for the season, two more than their total from the entire 2014 season.
