Caro Snags All-Big 12 Nod at Conference Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - Texas Tech cross country grabbed an All-Big 12 accolade at the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The men's team finished eighth overall, while the women's team placed ninth.
Junior Jocelyn Caro racked up All-Big 12 honors with a seventh-place finish in the women's 6K. Her time of 21:04.2 was the top time recorded for the women's team and is the 16th-fastest time at the conference championships by a Red Raider.
It's the first All-Big 12 nod for Texas Tech since Sharlene Nickle in 2013. Caro's seventh-place mark is also the first top 10 finish since Caroline Jepleting's 2011 championship winning race.
Sophomore Jasmine Torres picked up a top-20 time at 21:34.1. Following Torres by finish was: Hattie Schunk (22:56.5 - 59th), Kelly McQuaid (22:59.2 - 60th), Maggy Mulholland (23:39.0 - 75th), Katy Allen (23:41.2 - 76th), Rianna Randolph (24:16.6 - 81st), Sarah Bailey (24:24.6 - 84th) and Lynda Hanson (24:37.3 - 86th).
On the men's side, sophomore Miguel Bautista paced the Red Raider men's squad to a time of 25:26.1, finishing 27th overall in the 8K. It's the fastest time for the Harbor City, California, native at the conference meet and is the 18th fastest time for a Red Raider at the Big 12 Championships.
Following closely behind was sophomore Evans Tuitoek, clocking in at 25:49.1 for a 37th-place finish.
The rest of the men's field included: Ebenether Wondaferew (26:12.8 - 48th), Joacim Zuniga (26:13.5 - 49th), Clark Blunt (26:28.7 - 59th), Todd Mickey (26:41.3 - 63rd), Kory Mauritsen (26:49.6 - 66th) and Daniel Wedell (27:22.0 - 73rd).
Up next for the Texas Tech cross country teams is the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Friday, Nov. 13, at the UNM North Golf Course. The women's 6K will take place at 11 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 10K at noon CT.
