Petty Wins 100th As Texas Tech Cruises Past Memphis
February 12, 2015 | Women's Tennis

Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty became the fastest women's tennis coach to reach 100 wins in program history.
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty watched his squad not have its best day but still pull out a 4-0 win over No. 55 Memphis on Thursday at the McLeod Tennis Center.
"I do not think we played how I think we are capable of playing," said Petty of his No. 26 Lady Raiders. "The bottom line is we won, but there are some things I think we can improve on."
For Petty, it was win No. 100. He now posts a career record of 100-58. Reaching the mark in 158 matches eclipses the 100-59 record Mickey Bowes had as head coach in the 1980s.
"I really didn't do anything," said Petty. "This is about the young ladies that have played for this program. I only wish I had gotten their faster so more of our former players could have reaped the kind of success we have been having."
The irony is the victory comes against former Lady Raider assistant and Abilene native Hayden Perez, who is in his first year at the helm of the Memphis Tiger program. The Tigers are now 6-3 on the season. Winning the doubles point has been a struggle for Texas Tech of late. So, Petty threw a new look out on the court on Thursday. He broke up the tandem of Kenna Kilgo and Sarah Dvorak and opted to move Dvorak to No. 3 doubles and move Gabriela Talaba to No. 1.
Dvorak teamed with Katelyn Jackson and the combo picked up the first win of the day, as the tandem dropped Marta Morga and Tara McElroy, 6-2. Lynn Kiro and Sabrina Federici followed suit with a 6-2 win over Kathryn Hughes and Liza Tymchenko at No. 2. Kilgo and Talaba had their match abandoned against Anki Wind and Alyssa Hibberd with the score tied, 4-4.
No. 56 Dvorak then ousted Tynchenko, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2. Samantha Czarniak Rego then toppled McElroy, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6 and Texas Tech led 3-0. Talaba then closed out the match with a service ace for the deciding point in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kathryn Hughes at No. 4.
Petty began his career at Texas Tech 40-35 (53.3 percent) through his first 75 matches. Since then, his Lady Raiders have gone 60-23 (72.3 percent). Texas Tech will face No. 42 Utah on Saturday.
The last time Utah and Texas Tech squared off was in the 2012 NCAA Championships, where the Utes ousted Texas Tech, 4-3, in Miami.
STREAKS
In singles, three players have significant win streaks - Federici (9 matches), Czarniak Rego (7 matches) and Sarah Dvorak (6 matches). In doubles, Kiro and Federici have won five straight at No. 2.
WINS
Dvorak picked up her team best 16th singles win, Katelyn Jackson pulled even with Federici with 14 singles wins. In doubles, Hortense Boscher leads the way with 12 wins, while Federici and Kiro each have 10. Mid-season enrollee Talaba is 7-3 in doubles since joining the squad in January.
