Rupp limited Tech (5-6) to just one hit less than 24 hours after throwing a two-hit gem Saturday evening in a 2-0 victory over the Red Raiders. It marked the fewest hits for Tech since Baylor also tossed a one-hitter against the Red Raiders on March 30 last year.
The victory gave Texas State (5-5) the season series between the two schools as the Bobcats came back from losing the series opener to win the final two games of the weekend. Tech wrapped the CenturyLink Classic with a 3-3 record over the weekend.
Devon Thomey recorded the lone hit off Rupp with a two-out single in the second inning. She was the final base runner for the Red Raiders until Lea Hopson drew her second walk of the day with two outs in the sixth inning.
Rupp (3-3) retired 12 hitters in order leading up to Hopson's walk. She kept the work off her defense, too, with eight strikeouts, five of which that came in the first four innings.
Errors, meanwhile, plagued the Red Raiders in the field as each of Texas State's three runs came unearned to Tech starter Cara Custer. Tech committed three fielding errors in the loss after previously failing to record any miscues in its morning victory over UTSA.
Kelli Baker provided the game's only RBI with a two-out run-scoring single in the second inning that scored Texas State's second run of the frame. Baker led the Bobcats at the plate for the second-straight day as she finished with three of Texas State's five hits after going a perfect 3-for-3 overall.
Custer (2-4) allowed all five of Texas State's hits in her 4.1 innings of work. She was relieved by Mattison Maisel in the fifth inning after the Bobcats loaded the bases with only one out in the frame.
Maisel worked out of the jam effectively, allowing only one unearned run to score after a Tech fielding error. She retired each of the other five hitters she faced over her 1.2 innings.
The Red Raiders will hit the road once again next weekend, traveling to the UTA Hilton Invitational. The three-day tournament begins with a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader Friday afternoon against DePaul and then the host Mavericks.
