Gutierrez Named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week

Gutierrez is the first Red Raider to be named a National Player of the Week since 2010 (RHP Bobby Doran).
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior first baseman Eric Gutierrez (Mission, Texas) has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Gutierrez is the seventh Red Raider in school history to be named a National Hitter/Pitcher of the Week and is the first Tech player to receive the national honor since 2010 when junior right-handed pitcher Bobby Doran struck out 16 batters in 8.1 innings against Missouri.
Gutierrez started the season on a tear batting .750 (9-for-12) with seven runs, three doubles, four RBI and seven walks without striking out while reaching base safely in 16-of-19 plate appearances (.842 on-base percentage).
Gutierrez hit safely in all four games of the San Francisco series while posting three multi-hit games, including a career-high four-hit performance in the series finale.
He went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI in the opener, and then scored three runs going 2-for-3 with two walks and a double in game two of the series.
Gutierrez posted three walks going 1-for-2 in game three with two runs and a double. He went 4-for-4 with three RBI and an intentional walk in the fourth game of the series.
Gutierrez and the Red Raiders will be back in action at home tomorrow, Feb. 17 hosting Nevada for both teams' first midweek game of the season with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
