No. 25 Lady Raiders Upset No. 22 OSU, 4-1

Senior Kenna Kilgo led the Lady Raiders to a 4-1 upset of No. 22 Ohio State on Saturday in the semifinals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Kenna Kilgo has been a part of big matches over the last four years.
On Saturday, the Crawford, Texas, native pulled out a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 win over Ohio State's Anna Sanford at No. 1 singles to clinch No. 25 Texas Tech's 4-1 upset over No. 22 Ohio State in the semifinals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
For Kilgo, the win marked the Lady Raiders' 10th win over a top 25 team since she arrived in the fall of 2011. Prior to that Texas Tech had just two wins over Top 25 teams in the history of the program.
But the day did not start out with such fanfare for the Lady Raiders. Ohio State claimed the doubles point after Miho Kowase and Ferny Angeles Paz upended Lynn Kiro and Sabrina Federici, 6-4, at No. 2. The Buckeyes secured the point when the tandem of Olivia Sneed and Anna Sanford defeated Sarah Dvorak and Katelyn Jackson, 6-4, at No. 3.
No. 63 Kiro evened the match in singles, when the Texas Tech sophomore dropped No. 125 Sandy Niehaus, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. Gabriela Talaba won her fifth straight and improved to 6-2 on the spring with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Angeles Paz at No. 4.
Federici extended the lead to 3-1 with her 11th straight win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Kowase at No. 5. With the win, Federici improved to 16-2 on the season and put the match in Kilgo's hands.
The Lady Raiders will face No. 8 Alabama on Sunday at noon in the finals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. Texas Tech is 2-4 all-time against the Tide. Alabama defeated the Lady Raiders, 4-2, in the semifinals of this event last year.
