Texas Tech Picks Up 10th Win Of The Season

Texas Tech's No. 50 Lynn Kiro battled back to lead the Lady Raiders to a 6-1 win over Louisiana Tech.

LUBBOCK, Texas - It took a little over two hours for No. 19 Texas Tech to cruise past Louisiana Tech, 6-1, on Saturday in the second match of a Lady Raider doubleheader at the McLeod Tennis Center.
"I thought we came out focused and ready to play," said Lady Raider head coach Todd Petty. "Now we have to get ready for the second season. The Big 12 is loaded with five Top 25 caliber teams, so we have our work cut out for us."
Texas Tech need only 19 minutes to capture the doubles points. Lynn Kiro and Sabrina Federici bageled Marta Sramkova and Taly Merker, 6-0. Sarah Dvorak and Katelyn Jackson followed with a 6-2 win over Louisiana Tech's Haley Ballinger and Taylor Capannolo.
Gabriela Talaba routed Tarrannum Handa, 6-0, 6-0 and Federici followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Taly Merker to give the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead. It was Talaba's eighth straight win, while Federici picked up her 12th straight victory.
Jackson followed close behind with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Capannolo at No. 6 to clinch the match. Kenna Kilgo picked up her third straight win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 over Alexandra Starkova.
Louisiana Tech picked up its lone point when Jazmin Britos upset No. 65 Sarah Dvorak, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 2. No. 50 Kiro closed out the match with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 3.
Texas Tech returns action this weekend in the Sunflower State, as the Lady Raiders face Kansas on Friday and Kansas State on Sunday.
