LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech, coming off its first Big 12 series win of the season, returns to the road this weekend, traveling to Stillwater for a three-game series with Oklahoma State that begins with an 11 a.m. first pitch Saturday morning at Cowgirl Stadium. The series will continue with a 12 p.m. first pitch on both Sunday and Monday.
INSIDE THE OKLAHOMA STATE SERIES
Texas Tech heads into this weekend having won five of the past eight games against Oklahoma State, including two of the past three series. The Red Raiders took two-of-three games against the Cowgirls last year in Lubbock after scoring at least six runs the entire series.
Despite the recent success against Oklahoma State, the Cowgirls still maintain a 28-16 overall lead in the series that dates back to the start of the Big 12 Conference in 1996. The Red Raiders have struggled historically when playing in Stillwater as Oklahoma State is 11-3 all-time against Tech at Cowgirl Stadium. Tech has won just won of the past seven games in Stillwater with that lone victory coming in 2013 when the Red Raiders opened the series with a 10-0 run-rule rout.
LEADING OFF...
? The Red Raiders are coming off their first Big 12 series win of the season last weekend where Texas Tech took two-of-three games against No. 25 Kansas. It was Tech's first series win over a Big 12 ranked opponent since the Red Raiders also took two-of-three games from No. 25 Baylor on April 20-22, 2012.
? Texas Tech's win over No. 25 Kansas marked its first over a ranked opponent since the Red Raiders defeated No. 15 Baylor, 6-4, in the final game of the 2013 season. The series-opening victory snapped a 15-game losing streak for the Red Raiders against top-25 teams.
? The Oklahoma State series marks the first time the Red Raiders have faced a non-ranked opponent since defeating Seattle nearly a month ago on March 18. Texas Tech's final nine games of the regular season are all against teams not currently featured in either top-25 poll.
? Texas Tech's previous 11-game streak against ranked opponents was its longest since the Red Raiders played 13-consecutive contests versus top-25 foes in 2012.
? Oklahoma State kicks off the second-half of Texas Tech's Big 12 schedule which also features series against Texas and Iowa State.
? Texas Tech is the only Big 12 program to open conference play against three-straight ranked opponents as the Red Raiders previously faced No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 15 Baylor and then No. 25 Kansas last weekend.
? Texas Tech will be facing an Oklahoma State team this weekend that currently ranks third in the country in stolen bases as the Cowgirls have totaled 105 already this season. The Red Raiders, meanwhile, are tied for the Big 12 lead, having caught 13 would-be base stealers this season.
? The Red Raiders enter this weekend's series having won five of their past eight games against Oklahoma State. Texas Tech has won two of the past two series versus the Cowgirls as well.
? Texas Tech has scored at least six runs off the Oklahoma State pitching staff in four of the past six games against the Cowgirls, including 11 in the 2014 series finale.
