Red Raiders Lead NCAA Regional After 36 Holes

LUBBOCK, Texas - The ninth-ranked Red Raiders surged up the leaderboard over the final nine holes of Friday's second round to take over the lead of the NCAA Lubbock Regional heading into Saturday's finale at the Rawls Golf Course.
Texas Tech finished 5-under par throughout the last four holes of play in order to pass top-seed Texas for the lead. The Red Raiders finished the second round at 16-under par to take a three-stroke advantage after 36 holes.
Freshman Mito Pereira stormed down the back nine holes with four of his six birdies to push the Red Raiders forward as he finished the day with a 4-under-par 67. Meanwhile, senior Matias Dominguez followed close behind notching a 68 for the day, leaving him in a tie for sixth place individually.
Senior Clement Sordet continued his solid golf carding a 2-under for the second round after dropping three front nine birdies. Aiming for his ninth top-10 finish of the year, Sordet enters the final round of play in third place on the individual board, just two strokes behind the leader, K.K. Limbhasut of California.
No. 2 Texas trails the Red Raiders by three strokes while Duke sits in third at 10-under. No. 35 Houston will begin Saturday in fourth place while Southeastern Louisiana and Louisville sit tied for fifth place.
The top five teams from the Lubbock Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships held May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. The last time Texas Tech advanced to the NCAA Championships was 2013 where the Red Raiders tied for 14th place overall.
The 54-hole event concludes on Saturday with Texas Tech set to tee off beginning at 8:45 am CT alongside Texas and Duke. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
