Texas Tech head volleyball coach Don Flora announced the team's 2015 schedule, on Wednesday.
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech head volleyball coach Don Flora announced Wednesday the program's 2015 schedule, which includes a pair of home tournaments and 14 total matches at United Supermarkets Arena.
The 14 home matches equal the 14 matches from 2014, which are the most for the Red Raiders since 2001, when Tech hosted 16 en route to earning its most recent bid into the NCAA Championship.
"We continue to establish new levels of competition," said Flora, who enters his fifth season on the Tech bench. "This schedule prepares us for the rigor of the Big 12 even more than in past seasons."
The Red Raiders will open the season at home, with the Texas Tech Invitational. Tech will host Utah State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Houston at United Supermarkets Arena, Aug. 28-29.
Tech will then hit the road on back-to-back weekends, starting with a tournament in Nacogdoches, Texas, hosted by Stephen F. Austin, Sept. 4-5, before going to Annapolis, Md., for the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, where the Red Raiders will face Maryland, George Washington and Navy, Sept. 11-12.
Tech closes the non-conference slate the same way it will begin, at home. Washington State, Portland State and Northwestern State come to town Sept. 18-19 for the annual Lone Star Showdown.
"We believe we will see some quality teams and strong competition throughout our preseason," Flora said. "We look forward to the great competition, night in and night out, within the Big 12."
Like last season, Texas Tech will open the conference slate at home, as Oklahoma visits Lubbock on Sept. 23.
The Red Raiders follow that with back-to-back road games against Iowa State (Sept. 26) and Baylor (Sept. 30), where Tech will look to repeat its electrifying five-set win in Waco a year ago.
Tech returns home after that for home games against Kansas, on Oct. 7, and TCU, on Oct. 10, before traveling to Morgantown, W. Va., on Oct. 14, to take on West Virginia, and heading to Austin on Oct. 17 to play Texas.
The Red Raiders then have three home games in a four-game stretch, facing Kansas State (Oct. 24), Texas (Oct. 30) and Baylor (Nov. 4), sandwiched around a road game against Oklahoma, on Oct. 28.
Tech returns to the road to face Kansas State on Nov. 7, but comes right back to Lubbock to take on West Virginia, on Nov. 13.
Senior day for the Red Raiders will be Nov. 21, against Iowa State, which will be sandwiched between road games against TCU (Nov.18) and Kansas (Nov. 28), which will be the regular-season finale.
Flora returns plenty of talent and experience in 2015, including All-Big 12 middle Lauren Douglass, and outside hitter Jenna Allen, who led the team in kills and double-doubles in 2014.
