Texas Tech first baseman Eric Gutierrez was named the top defensive first baseman in college baseball on Sunday as part of the ABCA Gold Glove Award announcement.

Gutierrez is just the second Red Raider in program history to garner Gold Glove honors, joining former shortstop Kelby Tomlinson who was the first Big 12 player in conference history to receive the award in 2011.
Texas Tech is now the lone Big 12 program to boast multiple Gold Glove winners as only Texas and Baylor have had players recognized since Tomlinson in 2011. Gutierrez was the only conference player honored on the 2015 Gold Glove team.
Perhaps best known as one of the nation's top hitters, Gutierrez was also effective from his spot at first base where he posted a .992 fielding percentage. Gutierrez totaled just five errors on the year in over 600 chances.
Gutierrez was part of a Texas Tech infield that once again ranked among the nation's leaders in double plays as the Red Raiders are currently 14th with 59 total double plays this season and 10th in double plays per game heading into the College World Series.
In addition to his efforts defensively, Gutierrez was also among Texas Tech's leaders at the plate, hitting .315 overall with four home runs and a team-high 46 RBI. He also connected on 14 doubles and drew 39 walks for a career-high .444 on-base percentage.
Gutierrez ranks second in the Big 12 for RBI and on-base percentage and fourth overall for walks. He is also among the league leaders with 10 multiple-hit games this season.
This is the third postseason honor already for Gutierrez as he was previously an All-Big 12 first team honoree as well as a member of the ABCA All-Midwest Region second team.
