Aug. 20 | Red Raider Club Luncheon
Texas Tech fans celebrated the start of the 2015-16 sports season with the annual Red Raider Club Kickoff Luncheon at the Lubbock Civic Center Exhibit Hall.
"We aspire each and every day to be the best collegiate athletic program in the country," Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "We want to compete for championships. It's a journey; some of our programs are at that level, others are building and the expectation is to get better and show progress. We are very optimistic and confident that we'll see that from all of our sports teams this year."
The annual event is a celebration of the beginning of the 2015-16 TTU athletics season and included several guest speakers including head coaches Kliff Kingsbury (football), Don Flora (volleyball), Tom Stone (women's soccer) and Wes Kittley (cross country/track and field). Also in attendance were the Red Raider cross country, volleyball, soccer and football teams. Texas Tech Chancellor Robert Duncan, President Duane Nellis and Hocutt also spoke.
The program also featured special guest emcee Emily Jones McCoy, current Texas Rangers field reporter and Texas Tech alum. Also on hand to entertain the crowd were the Goin' Band From Raiderland, Raider Red, Saddle Tramps and the Tech cheer and pom squads.
"We've had 16 practices in 13 days," Kingsbury said of his football team. "I'm very proud of this group. It's a different look, a different desire in their eye and a different focus. That focus and leadership can be attributed to our tremendous group of seniors."
Aug. 20 | Position Preview: Secondary
Since his arrival at Texas Tech this past spring, defensive coordinator David Gibbs has stressed that he wants his unit to create havoc forcing turnovers. One area for the Red Raiders to achieve that goal is in the secondary which boasted one of the youngest units in the country in 2014.
Led by both Gibbs and defensive backs coach Kevin Curtis, the Red Raider secondary regularly featured several true freshmen a year ago, including Nigel Bethel II, Tevin Madison and Derrick Dixon. That experience combined with the return of veterans such as Keenon Ward, Justis Nelson and J.J. Gaines should give Texas Tech much-needed additional depth.
Texas Tech TV recently highlighted the secondary as part of its preseason "Position Preview" series.
Aug. 19 | Red Raiders Enter Week Three
Already two weeks into preseason practices, the Red Raiders began their third week of training camp on Wednesday with a two-a-day workout. Texas Tech began the morning with a light workout inside Jones AT&T Stadium before moving over to the practice fields later that afternoon at the Football Training Facility.

Aug. 18 | Position Preview: Offensive Line
Texas Tech boasts one of the most-experienced offensive lines in the nation this season as four starters return from 2014 when the Red Raiders allowed just 13 sacks. The Red Raider offensive line, led by returning All-Big 12 first team selection Le'Raven Clark, ranked 12th nationally and second in the Big 12 for sacks allowed a year ago.
In addition to Clark, offensive line coach Lee Hays also returns two-year starter Jared Kaster at center as well as Alfredo Morales, a member of the Lombardi Award watch list, and Baylen Brown at the guard positions.
Texas Tech TV took a deeper look at the offensive line as part of its preseason "Position Preview" series.

Aug. 14 | Coach Gibbs Mic'd Up
One of the most interesting storylines heading into the 2015 was the arrival of Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs, who arrived in Lubbock this past spring after two seasons in the same role at the University of Houston.
A 22-year coaching veteran, Gibbs bring experience to the defensive coordinator position as he brings a wealth of experience at both the collegiate and professional levels. In addition to his stint at Houston, Gibbs has also served as a defensive coordinator at both Auburn and Minnesota.
