LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech men's basketball program and Head Coach Tubby Smith released its 2015-16 schedule on Thursday which features 20 games versus opponents who won at least 20 games last season.
The nonconference schedule is highlighted by six home games against RPI Top 100 squads from last season, a trip to the prestigious Puerto Rico Tip-off before Thanksgiving and a marquee matchup at Arkansas as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge in late January.
"We have a very competitive schedule," Smith said. "We're going to be tested early on especially in Puerto Rico where we open up with Utah. There are a lot of excellent teams in that tournament field. It was important that we put together a competitive schedule but one that will help us grow and mature like our trip to Canada has. We have a great group of players, and I know the fans are going to be excited to see them. We expect the United Supermarkets Arena to be rocking."
Fans can purchase season tickets online at www.TexasTech.com, in person at the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office now located on the East Side of Jones AT&T Stadium, or via the phone at (806) 742-8324. Texas Tech is offering a family four-pack of season tickets for $179 in general admission sections 106, 107 and 108. Season tickets can be purchased for as low as $199 in select reserved sections on the 100 level. Certain reserved sections are subject to an annual seat contribution.
After a pair of exhibition contests against Concordia (Nov. 2) and West Texas A&M (Nov. 9), the Red Raiders open their regular season slate versus Coach Smith's alma mater, High Point (Nov. 13), at United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech will hit the road for the Puerto Rico Tip-off (Nov. 19-20, 22) where the Red Raiders square off with Utah to begin the three-day event. The Utes made a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2015 before being eliminated by eventual national champion Duke. Tech will meet up with either Miami (Fla.) or Mississippi State on day two of the Puerto Rice Tip-off. The tournament field is rounded out by Butler, Minnesota, Missouri State and Temple. Every game from Puerto Rico will be televised by the ESPN Family of Networks.
The Red Raiders return stateside to start an eight-game homestand with Hawaii (Nov. 28) and Sam Houston State (Dec. 2), a pair of 20-win squads from a season ago. Texas Tech takes on Tennessee-Martin (Dec. 9), South Dakota State (Dec. 16), Arkansas Pine Bluff (Dec. 19), Arkansas-Little Rock (Dec. 22) and Richmond (Dec. 29) at United Supermarkets Arena leading into its 18-game Big 12 schedule.
The Red Raiders face off with Texas (Jan. 2) for their Big 12 opener and play host to defending Big 12 regular season champion Kansas (Jan. 9), along with Baylor (Jan. 16) and West Virginia (Jan. 23) on Saturdays during the month of January.
Texas Tech plays mid-week road tilts at defending Big 12 Tournament champion Iowa State (Jan. 6) followed by Kansas State (Jan. 12), TCU (Jan. 18) and Oklahoma (Jan. 26) before the Red Raiders travel to Arkansas (Jan. 30) for the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
February's schedule features weekday home matchups against Oklahoma State (Feb. 3), Iowa State (Feb. 10) and Oklahoma (Feb. 17), in addition to Saturday road trips to Texas (Feb. 6), Baylor (Feb. 13), Oklahoma State (Feb. 20) and Kansas (Feb. 27).
The Red Raiders wrap up the regular season against Kansas State (March 5) leading into the Big 12 Tournament (March 9-12) at Spirit Arena in Kansas City.
Texas Tech concludes its four-game Canadian Tour on Thursday against Ottawa University. Tipoff is on-tap for 6 p.m. CT.
