LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball program and Head Coach Candi Whitaker released its entire 2015-16 schedule on Friday, a slate that includes matchups against six programs who earned NCAA Tournament bids a year ago.
The Lady Raiders' non-conference portion of the schedule includes a trip to Las Vegas, where they will face two teams that won more than 20 games last season.
We're very excited about our schedule," Whitaker said. "We open with our Education Day game against Niagara on the morning of November 13th. Last season we had several thousand elementary students in the arena and we think this is a great way to kick off our season. We travel to Vegas for the South Point Shootout and it offers us a chance to play two high-quality programs. Washington is expected to be a top-25 team this season so that's a great opportunity for us. Looking ahead to the Big 12, we know every opponent is going to be tough. We are looking forward to that challenge and we have a group of young ladies who will embrace it. We're ready to get started.
Fans can purchase season tickets online at www.TexasTech.com, in person at the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office, now located on the East Side of Jones AT&T Stadium, or via the phone at (806) 742-8324.
Texas Tech is offering a family four-pack of season tickets for both programs at $179 apiece in general admission sections 106, 107 and 108. Two general admission season tickets also are on sale for $99. Women's basketball season tickets are available for as low as $149 in select reserved sections on the 100 level. Certain reserved sections are subject to an annual seat contribution.
Tech has an exhibition match on Nov. 7 against Eastern New Mexico before opening its season with a home contest on Nov. 13 against Niagara. Tech's next two games are also at home, facing both Southeast Louisiana (Nov. 21), and Idaho State (Nov. 24). From there, the Lady Raiders head west for the South Point Shootout, which will be held at the South Point Arena, in Las Vegas, Nev. Tech takes on Fordham on Nov. 27, before facing Washington on Nov. 28.
Fordham went 21-12 (11-5, Atlantic 10) a year ago and advanced to the WNIT second round. Washington went 23-10 (11-7, Pac-12) in the 2014-15 campaign, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 seed.
Tech returns home to face Abilene Christian (Dec. 2) and Idaho (Dec. 9), before heading out to California to take on Santa Clara, on Dec. 12.
The Lady Raiders conclude non-conference play with three-straight home games against Incarnate Word (Dec. 14), Grambling (Dec. 18) and Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Dec. 20), respectively.
The Big 12 conference schedule begins at United Supermarkets Arena for the Lady Raiders, with a Dec. 30 contest against TCU. From there, Tech travels to Austin to face Texas, one of five Big 12 teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year.
Tech then hits the road, taking on West Virginia (Jan. 9), and moves on to Fort Worth for the rematch with TCU (Jan. 13).
The Lady Raiders return to Lubbock for a Jan. 17 game against Iowa State before traveling to Norman to face Oklahoma on Jan. 20.
Tech follows that up with a home contest against Kansas State (Jan. 24), and a trip to Waco to face defending Big 12 Champion Baylor on Jan. 27.
After that, the Lady Raiders have their second set of back-to-back road games on the conference slate--a Jan. 30 matchup against Kansas, and a Feb. 2 contest against West Virginia.
Tech heads to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State on Feb. 6 before returning home to take on Baylor, on Feb. 13. Then, the Lady Raiders have back-to-back road contests--Iowa State (Feb. 17) and Kansas State (Feb. 21). The Lady Raiders return home to face Texas on Feb. 24, before a road date with Kansas on Feb. 27.
Senior day for Texas Tech will be Feb. 29 against Oklahoma. From there, the Phillips Big 12 Championship is set to take place March 4-7, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
