Lady Raiders heading to Canada for two summer games
July 09, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's basketball program will close out its summer with a trip to Canada where the Lady Raiders will play two games during the trip that is set for August 6-11. The Lady Raiders will play against the University of British Columbia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 and then against University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 10 in the Langley Events Center in the Township of Langley, British Columbia, Canada.
"With the graduation of nine seniors, we felt the need to give our 11 new players extra time together— extra time to practice, compete, and build chemistry before the season begins in the fall," Texas Tech coach Krista Gerlich said. "Clearly, we saw the benefits of this type of summer opportunity las year and want to give this team as much of an advantage as we can. Just the team togetherness and bonding experiences is invaluable in itself, but the extra time on the court will go a long ways, especially with our six freshman."
Tech has been united since June on campus where they have been practicing as a team during the off-season leading into the 2026-27 season. The trip and games to Canada will serve as an extension of the off-season program and allows additional practice opportunities and game experience. The program saw the benefit of a foreign tour last summer that proves to be valuable time to build chemistry, establish team cohesion, and accelerates development on and off the court.
"A huge thank you to our donors for seeing the benefits as well and giving us the support needed for us to fund this trip," Gerlich said. "We are excited to take the Texas Tech brand internationally again an continue to the Double T a universal, household name."
This will be the second straight year the Texas Tech program has taken part in a foreign tour after playing in the 2025 FISU World University Games last summer in Germany. Representing the United States, the Lady Raiders earned a silver medal at the event last July to set a tone that carried over into their 2025-26 where they advanced to the 2026 NCAA Tournament and finished with a 26-8 overall record. Tech began the season with 19 straight victories and would go 12-6 in Big 12 play and 15-2 on their home court. Gerlich earned Big 12 Coach of the Year and signed a new four-year contract extension following the season where the team made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
