LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech senior Carlie Foust has been named the Big 12 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
It's the first honor for Foust and is the eighth in program history.
After coming one dig away from matching her career-high against Utah State (14) in the season opener, Foust accomplished the feat in each of the next two games. Against Louisiana-Lafayette, she recorded 18 digs and followed it up with 29 in the win over Houston.
Over the three-day Fall Invitational, Foust was responsible a conference-leading 61 digs, averaging 6.10 per set. She also served up four aces during the opening weekend of action.
"The great thing about Carlie this weekend was her quality of positioning and seeing the game that led to being prepared to make some important plays for the team," head coach Don Flora said. "Her hard work has been solid and this weekend it showed."
The 3-0 Red Raiders hit the road for the Stephen F. Austin Invitational this weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas. Texas Tech will face Columbia (10 a.m.) and Stephen F. Austin (6:30 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 4, followed by Northeastern (noon) and South Dakota State (5 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 5.
