LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech men's basketball team has signed Rokas Ulvydas to an athletic scholarship announced Wednesday by head coach Tubby Smith.
Ulvydas, a 6-11 forward from Kaunas, Lithuania, played for Mt. Zion Prep in Baltimore, Maryland last season. Due to NCAA rules, Ulvydas is required to serve a year in residence before being eligible for competition and will sit out the 2015-16 season. He is attending classes and will be able to practice with the Red Raiders this season. Ulvydas will be eligible to compete as a redshirt sophomore beginning in 2016-17.
"We are excited to welcome Rokas to our program," Smith said. "He is an exceptional individual and possesses a great work ethic. On the court, Rokas is versatile player who can stretch the defense with his outside shooting range. He also can rebound and defend, and we look forward to his development in the post."
