Texas Tech Women's Tennis Heads to OU Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's tennis team continues its fall season as the Lady Raiders travel to compete the Oklahoma Invitational over the weekend.
The Lady Raiders are one of six Big 12 teams and one of 10 teams overall taking part in the event. Tech is joined by conference foes Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Oklahoma State and host Oklahoma. SMU, Tulsa, North Texas and Wichita State also are participating in the three-day tournament.
Friday and Sunday's schedule features two rounds of doubles and one round of singles sandwiched between two singles rounds on Saturday. There are three singles draws with 16 players apiece, two doubles draws with 16 pairs each and an 11-player singles round robin.
"The main challenge for our team is how we handle and how we react to playing in a true college environment this weekend," Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty said. "It also gives us a taste and gets our feet wet against quality competition heading into October's ITA All-American Tournament."
Texas Tech has Lynn Kiro, Gabriela Talaba and Alex Valenstein making their fall singles debuts. Kiro and Talaba are ranked No. 51 and No. 103, respectively, in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis preseason singles rankings whereas Valenstein is playing in her first collegiate event.
Last week, Sabrina Federici ripped off a 4-1 mark highlighted by victories over opponents from Kansas and TCU. Katelyn Jackson posted a 3-1 record with all of her wins coming in straight sets.
