LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech senior Carlie Foust racked up Big 12 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced today.
It's the second time this season Foust has earned the award, also picking up the accolade on Aug. 31. She becomes the second Texas Tech student-athlete to win the defensive award multiple times in the season season, with Rachel Brummitt winning a pair of honors in the category in 2012 and 2014.
Foust, a native of Amarillo, was stellar on defense last week, matching a career-high of 29 digs in the win over Oklahoma on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Her marks against OU are tied for second in any match in the Big 12 in 2015, a feat she accomplished earlier in the season against Houston, as well as the most in a conference head-to-head matchup.
She also added 22 digs at Iowa State on Sept. 26, which ranks fifth in three-set matches in the Big 12 this season and the most in a conference head-to-head contest. It was the fifth match this season that she's posted 20 or more digs.
"Having put in a lot of quality work has really paid off for Carlie," head coach Don Flora said. "She continues to see the game in a good rhythm, which has helped her compete at a high level. Her drive to get better in matches has been a real plus for her and her teammates."
Her 51 digs over the two games gave her a conference-high 6.38 average per set last week, maintaining her third-place standing in the Big 12 at 5.00 digs per set.
Foust and the Red Raiders hit the road for Waco for a match against Baylor on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
