October 05, 2016 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – After taking the Carmel Cup individual title, sporting the NCAA's top stroke average in the process, Fredrik Nilehn has been named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September.
Nilehn is the first Red Raider to claim this award since Tyler Weworski won in February of 2011.
The junior transfer from Kennesaw State, coming off an appearance at the 2016 World Amateur Team Championship, took home the Carmel Cup individual crown after shooting a third round 5-under par 67, following up a second-round 67 and an opening-round 68.
Competing against five teams who were ranked in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll at the time, Nilehn was the only individual to card two rounds of 67 or better.
Nilehn's 67.33 stroke average leads the Big 12 and the NCAA.
Nilehn and the Red Raiders, who are ranked No. 12 in the Golfstat rankings and No. 13 according to Golfweek, continue their fall slate on Monday at the Paintbrush Invitational, in Denver, Colo.
