Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep over McLennan

Texas Tech finishes fall exhibitions 8-0.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Jessica Hartwell hit three home runs on the day as Texas Tech swept McLennan Community College in a doubleheader by scores of 4-0 and 7-3 Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field.

The Red Raiders finish the fall a perfect 8-0 while outscoring their opponents 69-13. The Red Raider World Series, which consists of three inrasquad scrimmages, will conclude the fall season and takes place Nov. 15-17 at Rocky Johnson Field.

Hartwell got the scoring started in game one with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, her. Freshman pitcher Kassidy Scott, who tossed her third scoreless appearance in four outings, helped her cause with an RBI single in the third inning to make it 3-0.

Senior Dominique Alcocer spelled Scott and finished the game as Tech tacked on one more in the sixth off a Kiana Workman single that brought home junior Camaury Washington to make it a 4-0 final.

The Red Raiders again got off to a strong start in game two thanks to a pair of home runs by Hartwell, a two-run blast in the first and a three-run bomb in the second. Freshman Hannah Broseman had another strong performance in the circle with five strikeouts in four innings of work while surrendering just one hit.

McLennan managed three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-3 ballgame, but senior Mattison Maisel found her groove in the circle to close out the Highlassies and give Tech a 7-3 victory.
