
Patrick Mahomes Named Tyler Rose Award Semifinalist

Mahomes leads the FBS in passing yards and total offense, and is tied for the FBS lead in total touchdowns.
TYLER, Texas – Texas Tech junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes II has been named as one of 16 semifinalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which is awarded annually to college football's most outstanding player either born in Texas, who graduated from a Texas high school or to play college football in Texas.
Mahomes has been arguably the most prolific quarterback in college football in 2016, currently leading the FBS in passing yards (4,446) and total offense (4,732 yards), while being tied for the FBS lead in total touchdowns (47).
Mahomes also leads a Texas Tech offense that tops the FBS in passing yards per game (451.8), while ranking second in total offense (555.3 yards per game) and eighth in scoring offense (42.7 points per game). Under Mahomes' guidance, the Red Raiders also rank fourth in the FBS in third down conversion percentage (.522).
The Whitehouse, Texas, native also leads the FBS in passing plays of 10+ yards, 20+ yards and 30+ yards, while being tied for fourth nationally with 35 passing touchdowns.
On the ground, Mahomes is responsible for 12 touchdowns, which is a Texas Tech school record for a quarterback, and ranks 24th in the FBS (second among quarterbacks).
Earlier this season, Mahomes set a single-game NCAA record for total offense with 819 yards against Oklahoma. He tied the single-game FBS passing record with 734 yards, while also rushing for a career-high 85 yards. He scored seven total touchdowns in the game, one of his five performances this season with at least five total touchdowns.
Finalists will be selected and announced on December 7, 2016. The winner will be announced at the award banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 11, 2017.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
