Livingston Wins Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Award
December 05, 2016 | Men's Basketball
IRVING, Texas – Anthony Livingston secured Big 12 Basketball Newcomer of the Week honors as announced Monday by the conference office.
For Livingston, it marked his first career weekly award from the Big 12. He also became the first Texas Tech player to win the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award since Norense Odiase during his freshman season on Nov. 24, 2014.
Livingston piled up 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assist per game as Texas Tech earned a pair of wins to improve its record to 7-1. He poured in a career-best 33 points highlighted by three free throws during the closing seconds to lift the Red Raiders to an 85-84 comeback win over Rice last Saturday.
Livingston's 33 points were the first time a Texas Tech player amassed more than 30 points in a game since Mike Singletary also provided 33 points during a 92-83 win at Iowa State on Jan. 26, 2011.
For the season, Livingston is eighth on the Big 12 leaderboard with 14.1 points per game. He also ranks among the Big 12's Top 10 in three-point field goal percentage (44.4 – 6th) and three-point field goals made per game (2.0 – T-7th).
Texas Tech continues its swing of in-state nonconference matchups with UTSA on Wednesday evening. Tipoff is on-tap for 7 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised by FOX Sports Southwest Plus along with the FOX Sports Go app.
